Conservative Party Convention And The Media

The media frenzy during the Conservative Party's  Convention in 2017.

I came from a country where corruption is the order of the day. From all sectors of the government down to the military, everyone were trying to outdo each other with power. Canada offered me a different perspective; that corruption is at its very low level, if any. For the last 20 years of my being a Canadian, I spend most of my time being visible in the community, as a Volunteer and as writer, bringing issues affront.

When I arrived in Alberta in 1998, I founded an organization for Caregivers, in Edmonton. We were able to change the landscape of the lives of Live-In Caregivers by making them embrace the many opportunities in Canada. They slowly emerged from their life in the basements at their employers homes and started going back to school to pursue their respective careers. Even when I moved to Ontario to be closer to  my relatives, my ties of my network in Alberta remains strong.

It isn't just about being a Volunteer to assists those who needed support that I am capable of, I am also a vigorous online writer. In the early 1990s, I was a contributor to a magazine dealing on foreign workers overseas, read by over 300,000 across the globe. Aside from my magazine write ups, I was also spending time on a shelter for displaced workers who were fighting their cases at that country's immigration, so they won't be sent home as per that country's policy. I helped them write their arguments so it can be understood fully. My being an inborn writer is my tool to deal with issues that matter to certain people or the world at large.

As a community Advocate and civic leader, I don't budge on my principles. Nothing can change or alter my belief to please people. My loyalty is something important, so when I put my trusts and my belief on something, I give it a 100%. It is not something that should be betrayed. I am born with enormous instinct where I am able to read  a person, even its inner core and thoughts. My father also taught me to put others and the majority of them much priority than myself.

On the aspects of politics in Canada, I was affiliated with the Liberals during my community leadership in Alberta. The then Minister of Justice under the Chretien Administration, she opened her office to our needs as foreign workers. Min. Anne McLellan was our ally. I am not into political loyalty because I want to be affiliated with the political person who can deliver and Min. McLellan was able to provide it to us.

When I moved to Ontario in recent years, meeting and befriending our first Filipino-Canadian Senator, the late Hon. Tobias Enverga Jr., I became affiliated with the Conservative Party because it was this party that appointed him to the Senate of Canada under the Harper government.  By then, the PC Party seemed descent. Having live in Durham Region, in one of our events attend by the late Senator, he invited an aspiring Conservative Candidate, Patrick Brown. Patrick Brown showed up with an equally younger guy at that event. Both of them looked far-fetched as a 'would-be-leader' prompting me to ignore those sheets of papers to get memberships. After all, Durham people from our community aren't that much interested being involved politically.

Fast forward to recent years, Patrick Brown became Ontario PC Leader. I am but a small voice so even if he is not my choice of leader, I took it with a grain of salt, courteously attending some of his events. It really doesn't matter to me much who'd win as long as our community remains intact. Politics is not a priority for us. We can go out and vote and come back home and continue with our life.

But in the latest turn of events, Patrick Brown, who seemed flawless, became accused of sexual misconduct on a news story that shook our feet and which changes our perspective. I am aware that an accused remains innocent until proven guilty. However, you also need to see those reactions and body language of an accused. If and when you are innocent, your reactions are surely of a calm demeanour which wasn't what I saw  but someone fleeing from  a throng of media reporters. Why flee?

But all these things are insignificant. With the seriousness of sexual misconduct allegations and in the light of the conviction of Larry Nassar in the U.S. victimizing hundreds of innocent victims, we cannot be complacent especially with a person in authority.

As a voter, I can let go of Patrick Brown's rigorous denial of his alleged sexual misconduct, but I cannot sympathize him as the victim. A fuzzy memory of one victim is not enough to absolve him from these allegations. He is not cleared until he goes to court and sue the people who defamed him.

But my disgust with the Conservative Party of Canada in its recent chaos,  is how they handled this Patrick Brown saga. The interim leader has been releasing informations of corruptions such as inflated memberships and questionable nominations. Is that not enough to remove Patrick Brown completely from the party for such behaviour? and yet, no, he still runs on the leadership race.

Patrick Brown himself is unravelling and yet he still seemed like the saviour of Ontarians. But how when he has been caught lying and desperately maneuvering his way to win. Something like denying he resigned and then came the audio that he did resigned. Boy, how dumb an ordinary person can be to not see this man lying in an attempt to gain power?

In the reality of it, Patrick Brown is not fighting for Ontarians. He is fighting to get a grip on power ignoring decency, integrity and credibility. He doesn't need to convince because his throng of blind followers and supporters, who clearly may benefit personally on his victory, doesn't need convincing.

The vomiting aspect of the PC Party is that, they are more focused on winning for personal power. No, it isn't about Ontarians. The fact that the PC party swallowed back what they vomit, Ontarians can live another years with Kathleen Wynne until someone on the PC Party have the backbone to put policies in place within the party to eliminate scalawags in their own party.

My influence is small but my narratives can reach beyond borders. It carry that faint of light and shine on how greed and selfish pursuit can succeed with gullible minds.

The demise of a political party's glory is  not even something I will look back. You can't have a political party who cannot police themselves.
