Normally, I come for specific story. In fashion shows, I come for models and pick my choice of potentially becoming a supermodel in our midst. Fashion models are like any other artists in any entertainment category, we pick the bests and how they carry the designer's collections brilliantly. There is that thing charm and magnetic personality which not all of us are bestowed. Standouts, I mean. Some fashion shows I've been in were fun but my eyes were normally filtering the designs the models were wearing and readily dismissed them as "out of this world and who the hell will wear them?"

As a discussion with someone who bluntly expresses her opinions on fashion shows as basically a waste of time where money spent in productions are better used in feeding hungry children or diverted for some good charitable causes which partly I am in agreement. "Who'd wear those designers' clothes, anyways?" And I have to nod because unless you are in the hierarchy of the Duchess and the filthy rich CEOs attending Black Tie events, who on earth will actually wear designer clothes overly designed? Or worst, Fashion producers will just buy clothes from outlet malls, put them on on clueless models in the hope of earning money and for models strutting the runway thinking it is a good promotion and addition for their portfolios.

Fashion shows are remarkably a challenging production especially when it presents popular designers. In the case of the recently concluded fashion show by Jaki Penalosa, it demands people with high experience and love of fashion to put it up all together. And it went without serious glitzes as normal to live shows because everyone were working hard to make the event worthwhile.

Who would question the woman who bark orders and directions and she meant business to elevate the show into a classic one. After all, Jaki Penalosa is a name that seems to me is a byword to people who appreciate intricacy of work and substance. Marilynn Narcisa is an absolute pro when it comes to handling fashion shows and this was my first to ever witness a fashion show production that she has directed. And my first ever to appreciate a line of collections that were simple yet elegant and classy. The collections were not meant only for the highest echelon of society. Anyone can wear it and look exceptionally pretty and lovely. It wasn't because the models are born to be lovely and pretty. It was the kind of design and fabrics that fits the contour and lines of the body.

Hand woven as the prelude montage implies and pina fabrics. It also showed an industry in Iloilo that feeds families and preserved indigenous peoples and culture. In my life as an independent writer in the age of social media, I come alone on events not just to press my camera shutter. I am also looking for substance with the environment I'm in. It's always a question of, "What story can I write?" My eyes and my mind focuses on the overall aspect of an event, doesn't matter what it is. The parallel of integrating an event to community impact sometimes play a role. In the case of Jaki Penalosa, her designer collections, and the people showcasing it; the models.

Fashion models who cramped audition venues in the hope of getting into the runway no matter how fleeting and insignificant their roles maybe. Fashion models who most times devout their time freely for the love of passion and perhaps the desire to be noticed and move up into a more popular status. These are things I am looking at without the desire to offend, to be impartial and to be unfair. Fashion models have dreams. They are beautiful creatures who wanted to carve a name for themselves. In my role as a storyteller, how can I help bringing their modelling one level up?

I'm born with a gift to see beyond my four fingers and decipher at best what's in front of me. I don't have to know you. I don't need pre-introductions to be able to single out stunning performance even models strutting on the runway to sell a designer clothes.  Partly though, I was in by those with authority to be able to pick what was a beautiful production. And it was....

There were fashion models that I've already known of which I knew have already proven their ability to wear designer clothes from known fashion designers. Partly I was there for them and for the whole production. The reality in life is that, you favour those that you know. On my part, it doesn't mean I will affirm what others are saying if it does not made the cut. Because below, you will find other faces that I never knew of who twinkles on the runway as they carry the exquisite product of a brilliant fashion designer. They give it justice for Jaki Penalosa and the native people of Iloilo who may have depended their lives on the production of those woven exquisite creations.

Why am I giving emphasis on the models who did well on this event? Because they toil hard on this opportunity being given to them. We should not overlook their importance. We should put on their faces for people to see who and what so that we can continue uplifting them and so they can keep the flames on their love of fashion,  lighted and burning.

The fashion show in which Jaki Penalosa's Collection proved elegant, simple yet classy. Well-designed with unnecessary accessories to make it look good. The barong Tagalogs and Pilipiniana that I saw was truly beautiful.

All models were great and among the stunners that evening was Maisie Floriano who raised the curtain of the show. Maisie Floriano was stunning at all collections she was wearing. But the finale....wherein Maisie Floriano strutted on a delicate and beautifully crafted design wedding gown was incredibly beautiful. Maisie Floriano is always stunning! And she has been fronting many high- profiled fashion shows in Toronto.

Most of the models I truly am not familiar with and I find them truly exquisite in showcasing a designer collection no less than Jaki Penalosa.

Another very promising young model is Kyrha Del who recently turned 13, showed her prowess as walked the runway. The sullen face and controlled execution as she walked to showcase a classy creation and Kyrha Del is a fashion model to watch. She has been noticed many times and this very young age, Kyrha already have a line of beauty products simply called "Kyrha."

This event was a blast. It also gave our models a platform to shine. Like Maisie Floriano who raised and pulled the curtains down for Jaki Penalosa.
