JUDITH GONZALES, Host of Pinoy Dreams Radio Programme scheduled at Pinoy Radio every Sunday from 4-5 P.M. puts afront crucial issues of Temporary Foreign Workers and Caregivers to the airwaves nationwide to get a hands on interaction with MP Michael Levitt as guest from the new Trudeau  government. MP Michael Levitt is from York Centre riding and is with the Foreign Affairs Committee at the House of Commons. Faye Arellano, a former journalist in the Philippines and now an advocate to the causes of TFWs and Caregivers was co- hosting the discussion with Co- broadcaster, Analyn Aryo on last Sunday's episode, February 28, 2016 4-5 P.M.

Pinoy Radio Station was packed with listeners who came to listen to MP Michael Levitt, Judith Gonzales, Faye Arellano and Analyn Aryo as Immigration issues took MP Michael Levitt full throttle to deal with so many issues TFWs and Caregivers are facing. According to Faye Arellano, there are about 48,000 application backlogs in the system.

Immigration issues are broad and very challenging. But the good thing about last Sunday's discussion at Pinoy Dreams is that, someone from this new government acknowledges a broken system that must be fixed. MP Michael Levitt also recognized the positive contributions of Caregivers and TFWs to Canadian Society that  may paved the way to granting them Landed Status.

What are also important on this critical issues are the Advocates who are working tirelessly to help and defend those vulnerables who are given refusals of their Landed status applications. Or their family members are being refused barring them from joining their loved ones in Canada.

A few months ago, I assisted someone whose Landed Status application reaches 10 years with the final letter denying the principal applicant, the Caregiver, its own Landed Status. Let me put it simply, she and her dependents were all denied and deemed inadmissible. Ten years....one applicant developed kidney problems and the Caregiver in Canada filing the application was also denied.

When I sent my initial letter to the Immigration as an unpaid Representative, I wasn't appealing nor begging for reconsideration. I was pointing out the huge span of years the Immigration failed the applicant miserably. There is no way, the main applicant which has completed the required years under the previous LCP program become inadmissible because one of its sponsored member doesn't. I will not beg on a system horrendously flawed it becomes cruel and unjust.

In response, the Immigration changed their stand by giving her Landed Status treating her case exceptional. She has since received her Permanent Status. The problem is, her dependents are in limbo in the Philippines because Canadian immigration here washed their hands and pointed to Manila the decision of the fate of her dependents. Maybe this new government can answer me when and how my friend's family can be reunified with her here in Canada.

MP Michael Levitt during the Pinoy Dreams segment reiterated the important contributions of Caregivers and TFWs to the Canadian society. The program is under review and everyone in this sector must be hopeful of the sincerity of the new government to fix the system. But all of us who passed through the old LCP program, we all know that once we completed the program, we also met the required merits to qualify for landed status. So how and why, a refusal?
