Zumba: Meet Felix Rodriguez

A person who does not know how to dance can only sum up any body movement as dance or disco. My many attempts at the dance floor always put me on odd predicaments. My mind is so eager to make some moves but my feet and my body does not synchro completely. The result is sitting on the chair like I will faint if I stood up.

I've never been to a group dance which they labelled "Zumba" but I guess today at Pickering I have my taste of Zumba. I was to cover a Zumba Master named Felix Rodriguez at a school indoor arena. I was late as always, turning on the wrong direction. The GPS was friendly today bringing me to the right direction however getting into a parking lot with the yellow arrow towards me. I speed up before a car comes on the right direction.

The large room was full with Zumba fanatics wriggling on tantalizing music. I was registering as a media person and I can feel my toes pretty much wriggling underneath my shoes. I proceeded to the front by the side of the stage. Felix was already dripping with sweats as well as his patrons on the floor hundreds of them dancing to the rhythm of a Zumba music.

Everyone's enjoying the beat. But there was something a little far off from those old discos. There was a lot of flexing here and there and Felix Rodriguez was on the stage with his ladies behind him bending and stretching to the tune of Despacito. "So this is Zumba?" A combination of steps and muscle flexing, stretching and bending like a glorious exercise. Now I get it and everyone seems to be unmindful whether their body and feet in synch or not.

Zumba according to FELIX RODRIGUEZ INAY, is more on cardio exercise. I could see a lot of flexing and stretching but looks subtle because of the music. It was fun, healthy and addictive. Felix Rodriguez Inay simply fall in love with Zumba because he said it feels like a community. He likes ethnicity of his attendees which today at St. Mary Catholic School has over three hundred Zumba fanatics in attendance.

YOLI Canada was the major Sponsor of the event led by Therese Victorino Cruz.

The call to donate 3 lechons (roast pig) and fried chickens for the culmination of the Paring Bol-anon 30th Reunion at Sts. Peter and Paul in Mississauga, Ontario from Talibon group was devoured quickly after I posted it on Facebook. What is a feast without lechon? I may look like a wanderer with only a cat to hug and kiss but the reality is...I have families real and acquired along the years ready to jump at any given circumstance. Talibonians- we are natives from a small town in the Philippines called Talibon- home of two human beings changing the world through their character and brilliance. And who are they? The late Philippine President Carlos P. Garcia who reign the Philippine politics post WWII. And currently a Bishop, His Excellency Bernardito Auza- Vatican Envoy and Permanent Observer to the UN in New York appointed by Pope Francis last year. The lechon was in addition to the main group preparing for that event from Corella, Bohol. We were only assisting. I'm no

A Friend's Birthday Opens Door To My Past

Tess Famorca's birthday at her employer's home, Sep 25, 2021. I've known Tess Famorca as far back as 2014 at St. Therese Church in Courtice where I was asked to start our traditional pre-Christmas Filipino Mass we called "Simbang Gabi" by Mother Ulrica (Former Mother Superior) of the Daughters of St. Mary of Leuca. Tess was one of those who joined and supported the 10 day evening masses we celebrated each year from 2014 during the Advent season. A long time tradition in the Philippines now deferred because of the pandemic. Every night we asked for Sponsors to take care of that day's activity including Offertory and the Fellowship that will follow after; a feast full of various foods and Filipino delicacies for everyone. Tess at that time does not have her family yet. They were still in the Philippines while Tess worked on her requirements for her landed immigrant status. I think one time she told me that her Simbang Gabi prayer intentions was for her family to

MARILYNN Doc NARCISA: The Woman That Left Behind Empowerment And Dreams

A beautiful montage for a beautiful woman.... An early morning call to inform of Marilynn Narcisa's passing was like a nightmare. I wouldn't be expecting a friend, Merecyl, to sound like she herself just woke up from a bad dream. "She died this morning..." and I had trouble letting it sink in. There was a deluge of many overpowering thoughts. Did I miss something to even know she will depart from us, her friends, eternally? How? Since the pandemic, we lost touch. There were occasional chat and she sometimes make comments on some of my posts. Other than that, there was nothing unusual to note of anything that this friend is going through. But I understand. She's always private. She was a woman who treasured her privacy and guard her personal life. A gentle soul whose smile on her face is remarkably genuine.  I cannot remember when our friendship started. In my desire to connect with the rest of the Filipino community, I met a lot of people. Marilynn's presence,
